We believe it is helpful to have an overview of how this commitment is applied as SunTrust collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you visit us online.
So that we may better serve your needs, we and our third–party providers monitor your use of our websites and those of our third-party providers. In using these websites, you acknowledge that we do not filter traffic to block monitoring of your use in response to do-not-track signals or mechanisms external to our systems or those of our third-party providers.
The Types of Information We Collect and How it is Used
When you visit a SunTrust website or otherwise interact with us online, we may collect navigational information, such as pages visited and average time spent on a particular page. We may also collect technical information concerning your device browser type, IP address, or the presence of any software necessary to view our site, as well as information about the device you use to access secure pages. This is done to help us analyze our site and enhance your experience, to alert you of any possible software compatibility issues as well as helping us to make decisions about how various technologies are used. We may use personal information to send you marketing communications, present personalized offers, ads, or content that we believe may be of interest to you; for business purposes, including data analysis, audits, developing and improving products and services, enhancing the site, identifying usage trends and determining the effectiveness of promotional campaigns. In some cases, we may also use this information to help protect the security of your personal and account information.
When you or your representative provides personal information on applications, forms, and electronic messaging, we use it for many purposes, including processing transactions on your account, responding to product applications and questions, and to fulfill regulatory requirements. SunTrust maintains strict policies against the unauthorized disclosure or use of client information and has extensive safeguards in place to prevent unauthorized access.
SunTrust and its online advertising and marketing partners may employ various technologies to collect information, including:
- Cookies: Cookies are pieces of information stored directly on your device. Cookies provide information that is used for security purposes, to facilitate navigation, to display information more effectively and to personalize/customize your online experience. You can choose to block these cookies as most devices and browsers offer their own privacy settings. Doing so, however, may result in diminished performance on our site.
- Pixel tags, web beacons, clear GIFs or other technologies: These may be used in connection with certain pages and downloadable mobile applications to measure the effectiveness of our site and compile statistics about usage and response rates.
- Flash objects: Flash objects help us recognize you and your device and are vital for online authentication. For pages running Adobe® Flash® content, we use Flash objects to determine your browser type and version of Adobe Flash in order for you to view the content. Deleting cookies does not delete Flash objects. You can learn more about Flash objects - including how to control and disable them - at the Adobe website (http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/disable-local-shared-objects-flash.html). If you disable Flash objects, you may not be able to access and use parts of suntrust.com.
- Aggregated Data: Aggregated data is compiled from sources including accounts and transactions. This information, which does not identify individual clients, is used for various business purposes including marketing research and data analysis.
- IP Address: Your IP Address is a number that is automatically assigned to your device by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). An IP Address is identified and logged automatically whenever a user visits the site, along with the time of the visit and the page(s) that were visited. This information is used to calculate usage levels, diagnose server problems and for compliance, security and administration purposes.

If you would prefer that your movements and actions online at suntrust.com not be monitored, you can opt-out of tracking at https://somni.suntrust.com/optout.html.

Advertising on Third-Party Sites
SunTrust advertise its products and services on unaffiliated websites and mobile apps. We may combine our personal and non-personal offline information about you with information from other partners in data sharing cooperatives in which we participate. We may use this aggregated data and information provided by you at these third-party websites to select which of our advertisements or offers may appeal to you, display them to you and monitor your responses. The third party companies we hire to display these ads set their own cookies in your browser and use Web beacons to measure the effectiveness of these ads and to understand your likely interest. Many of our third-party partners have their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review these policies carefully.
You may choose not to receive tailored ads that are based on your activity on our website and online services. Opting out does not prevent you from receiving advertisements, but the ads you see will not be specifically tailored to you based on your online activity. To learn more about your choices or to opt out, please visit http://www.aboutads.info/choices/.
Interest-based Advertising: Some of our ads are interest-based advertising and may gather and use information on your online interests to customize the Web ads you see.
SunTrust has adopted the use of the AdChoices Icon (also known as the Advertising Option Icon) on our interest-based advertising (excluding ads appearing on platforms that do not accept the icon). Anyone receiving an interest-based ad may click on the displayed icon to receive more information. By clicking on the AdChoices Icon, you learn about how interest-based ads are delivered to you. More importantly, the AdChoices Icon gives you the ability to control whether you receive interest-based advertising and from which companies.

Aggregation allows you to gather information from many websites and view that information in a consolidated format on one site. If you provide information about your SunTrust accounts (including your access information) to an aggregation service provider, we will consider that as your having authorized all transactions initiated by that aggregation site.
