Joseph Thompson
Head of Private Wealth Management, SunTrust Banks, Inc.

CEO, SunTrust Investment Services, Inc.

As Chief Executive Officer of SunTrust Investment Services, Joe Thompson currently leads the Private Wealth Management line of business. In this role, Joe manages the Private Wealth Management overarching strategy including Domestic and International Wealth Management, Sports and Entertainment Banking Group, Medical Specialty Group, and GenSpring.

Prior to being named to this position, Joe was head of Investment and Corporate Banking at SunTrust Robinson Humphrey. Investment Banking includes the Consumer & Retail, Energy, Financial Services, Financial Sponsors, Healthcare, Industrials, Media & Communications, REITs and Technology practice groups as well as the Mergers & Acquisitions group.

Joe has a Bachelor of Arts from Williams College and earned a Masters degree in Business Administration from the Harvard Business School. A native of Atlanta, Joe graduated from The Westminster Schools. He is a member of the Executive Committee Board of Directors of The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and is actively involved in the Woodruff Arts Center. Joe and his wife Alison have two children, Anna and Andrew.

Willem Hattink

Willem Hattink is the Chief Executive Officer of GenSpring Family Offices, SunTrust’s multi-family office affiliate providing independent advice to families of substantial wealth. Willem also oversees the Private Wealth Management Specialty Groups, including Medical Specialty Group, Sports and Entertainment Group and International Wealth Management.

Prior to being named to this position, Mr. Hattink was the Private Wealth Management Market Executive at SunTrust Banks, Inc. Previous leadership roles include business executive for SunTrust’s Central and Mid-Atlantic banking groups. A 30-year veteran of SunTrust, he began his career in the commercial banking training program and subsequently held increasingly responsible roles in international banking, corporate and investment banking, commercial real estate, and wealth and investment management.

Mr. Hattink earned an MBA from George Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Higher Economic School in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Tennessee: E. Jerry Coleman, IIIMedical Specialty Group

E. Jerry Coleman

Jerry is the Head of the Medical Specialty Group at SunTrust, a group of dedicated teams that are focused exclusively on the unique needs of medical practice and physicians. A native of Columbus, GA, he joined Trust Company Bank as a banking officer before moving to a sales position with Burroughs Corporation in South Carolina and then Albrights, Inc. back in Columbus, GA. Jerry resumed his banking career with SunTrust Bank in 1986. He was named to the position of Executive Vice President and Private Wealth Management Division Executive for Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina in 2008.

Jerry was Chairman of Leadership Columbus and served on the Board of Directors of Boys & Girls Clubs and United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley. Additionally, he was President of The Country Club of Columbus and a member of the administrative board of St. Paul United Methodist Church. His hobbies include golf and running.

Jerry earned his BS degree in Business Administration from Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C., in 1980, and a MBA degree in Finance from Auburn University.

Residing in Nashville, Jerry and his wife, Allison, are the parents of four sons.

Sports & Entertainment Specialty Group

Jeff Dunn

Jeff Dunn is Executive Vice President of the Sports & Entertainment Specialty Group for SunTrust Banks, Inc. Mr. Dunn assumed this role in January 2013. In this role, Mr. Dunn leads a national team that focuses on corporate and individual clients in the sports, music, and film industries.

Prior to joining the Sports & Entertainment Specialty Group, he was Division Executive for the West Coast of Florida where he was responsible for directing the sales and service efforts of 125 employees with assets under management in excess of $6 billion. In August 2003, he was named Executive Vice President and Head of Private Wealth & Investment Management for the Tampa Region. Jeff moved to Private Client Services as a Relationship Manager for high net worth clients in the Tampa market in May 2000. In April 1997, he joined SunTrust Banks as a Vice President and Commercial Banker. Mr. Dunn’s banking career started with M&T Bank in Buffalo as a Management Trainee in 1991. He worked as a Corporate Banker for six years and was promoted to Vice President on Commercial Banking in less than five years.

Mr. Dunn is a graduate of the Leadership Tampa class of 2003. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from La Salle University in 1987 and earned his Masters of Business Administration in Finance in 1990 from Niagara University. He is a former member of the Board of Trustees at the University of Tampa, the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center and the Board of the Catholic Foundation of Diocese of St. Petersburg where he previously served as President of the Foundation. He also served on the Finance Council for the Diocese of St. Petersburg. He and his wife Susan with their three children, Liam, Rosalie, and Erin reside in Atlanta.

Division Wealth Management

Thomas M. Carroll, CFP®

Thomas Carroll leads the Division Wealth Management teams, with oversight and responsibility for the five divisional Private Wealth Management markets. Previous roles include chief executive officer of GenSpring Family Offices and managing director for the Sports & Entertainment Specialty Group for SunTrust Banks, Inc.

A 17-year SunTrust veteran, Thomas has held increasingly responsible positions in the Private Wealth Management business. Prior to managing the Sports & Entertainment Specialty Group, Thomas was the wealth services manager for the Atlanta region.

A native of Atlanta, Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Wake Forest University, and holds a Certified Financial Planner™ designation.

Debbie Carswell is an Executive Vice President with SunTrust Banks, Inc. and serves as the Central Florida Private Wealth Management Division Executive. She is responsible for the financial performance of Private Wealth Management Central Florida that spans from Daytona Beach to Naples; as well as the delivery of a consistent client experience.

Ms. Carswell joined SunTrust in 1985 in Jacksonville, Florida. She worked in Retail Banking, Commercial Banking, Private Banking and Private Wealth Management until 2000 when she moved to South Florida to assist the bank in developing a Private Banking unit in that market. In 2005, she was asked to lead Florida’s Private Wealth Management Line of Business. She relocated to Orlando with that assignment in 2006. In 2010, her responsibilities were expanded as the Senior Geographic Private Wealth Management Line of Business Manager responsible for Private Wealth Management Execution throughout the footprint.

Ms. Carswell is active in the community and now serves on the local City Year Board and is a member of the Central Florida Women’s League. In the past she has served on local boards of the American Red Cross, Cerebral Palsy, and Uptown Civitan, as well as committee involvement with United Way of Northeast Florida, Junior League, and the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce. She is also an alumna of Leadership Jacksonville, Class of 1992. In 2008, Ms. Carswell was appointed by Governor Crist to the Governor’s Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service. In that capacity she served on the Legislative, Emergency Management and Audit and Finance committees. She is a Founding Member of City Year Miami and City Year Orlando.

Ms. Carswell is a graduate of Florida State University, and the Florida Banker’s Association’s Graduate Trust School. She is a Certified Trust and Financial Planner and holds series 6, 63, 7, 66 and 24 Securities registrations. Ms. Carswell resides in Orlando, Florida with her husband, Lee. They have two children, both in college.

Cynthia Norville

Cynthia Norville is currently an Executive Vice President & Division Line of Business Manager for Private Wealth Management in Georgia and Northern Florida. Cynthia joined SunTrust and assumed this role in June 2014. As the Division Manager, she is responsible for leading the teams that serve the wealth management needs of high net worth individuals, families and small businesses throughout GA and Northern Florida.

Cynthia has spent more than 30 years serving the wealth management needs of clients in the South East. Most recently she was the Managing Director and Southeastern Regional Executive for Deutsche Bank located here in Atlanta. Prior to that, Cynthia spent 21 years with Morgan Stanley. While she was with Morgan Stanley, Cynthia held various leadership positions in AL, GA, SC, NC, TN and OH.

Cynthia is a graduate of The University of South Alabama with a B.S. Cum Laude in Finance. She resides in Atlanta with her husband, Tom and two daughters Haley and Kate.

Tom Hodges is the Division Executive for Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina. Tom began his career 28 years ago in the Charlotte financial market by leading teams in Retail, Business Banking and Private Wealth Management for Wachovia Bank. In 2005, Tom joined SunTrust as a Managing Director of the Mecklenburg/South Carolina Private Wealth Management Team. Since joining SunTrust, he has earned his Certified Financial Planner™ designation and holds the FINRA Series 7, 24 and 66 securities registrations as well as his North Carolina Life and Health Insurance licenses.

Tom is a 1986 graduate of Appalachian State University, earning a B.S.B.A in Business Management. He serves on the Board of Directors for Samaritan’s Purse, Appalachian State Finance, Business and Insurance Board of Advisors and is a Rotary International Member. Tom resides in Charlotte with his wife Michelle and son, Thomas.

Chris Hartman currently serves as the Executive Vice President & Division Line of Business Executive in Private Wealth Management for the MidAtlantic. Prior to assuming this role, he served the firm as a High Net Worth Client Advisor and then as Managing Director of the SunTrust Legal Specialty Group, a dedicated team focused exclusively on the unique needs of law firms and attorneys. Chris joined SunTrust in September, 2008 from Citi where he was a Director in its Washington, DC Private Bank office. Prior to Citi, Chris had numerous consumer and commercial roles and responsibilities at Bank of America and its predecessors.

Chris received undergraduate degrees from the University of Virginia and his Masters in International Commerce & Policy from George Mason University. He and his family reside in Alexandria, Virginia, where Chris is active in the community as a youth athletics coach, Chair of the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership, Director of the Alexandria Industrial Development Authority, member of the Alexandria City Public Schools Long Range Planning Committee, and member of the Long Range Planning Committee at Mount Vernon Country Club.

Manuel (Manny) F. Perez-Carrillo is an Executive Vice President with SunTrust Banks, Inc. and serves as the South Florida Private Wealth Management Division Executive and Head of the International Wealth Management Specialty Group. In this role, he is responsible for the strategic positioning and management oversight of client wealth advisors in South Florida.

Mr. Perez-Carrillo joined SunTrust in 2011 in Miami, Florida. He has 30 years of experience in the wealth management industry. Prior to joining SunTrust, he was Senior Director of Trust and Fiduciary Services for the Florida and Southeast regions for Wells Fargo and held various Senior Leader roles over a 24 year career with Wachovia Bank.

Mr. Perez-Carrillo is a graduate of Trinity International University with a B.S. Cum Laude in Business and Human Resources Management. He also completed various graduate level tax studies at Florida International University and is a Certified Trust and Financial Advisor. Mr. Perez-Carrillo resides in Miami, Florida with his wife Maria. They have four children.
