Acquiring of Insured Deposits

What is the significance of this news?
SunTrust’s role in helping the FDIC with this transaction offers us positive business potential in terms of adding deposits and welcoming new client relationships in key SunTrust markets. It also points generally to SunTrust’s relative strength and stability in the industry, and reflects our commitment to helping to stabilize our industry and the economy.

Given current market conditions, are there any risks to SunTrust in this transaction?
No. We are receiving only FDIC-insured client deposits (and a very modest number of loans that are fully collateralized with cash deposits).

What does this mean for SunTrust clients?
Unless a client has an account with Omni National Bank, this event does not impact SunTrust clients.

What happens next?
SunTrust will operate the Omni National Bank branches during a 30 day transition period while we work to introduce depositors located in a state in which SunTrust maintains a retail branch location to SunTrust. Additionally, we will be assisting Omni National Bank depositors located in a state in which SunTrust does not maintain a retail branch location with transitioning their financial services to another provider.

Will SunTrust add the Omni National Bank branches to its network?
Effective Monday, March 30, 2009, SunTrust will assume responsibility for branch operations until April 27. At that time, all Omni National Bank branches will be closed.

What about Omni National Bank employees?
Former Omni National Bank employees are not SunTrust employees. We invite Omni National Bank employees in Florida and Georgia to consider applying for employment with SunTrust.

What guarantee do I have that what just happened to me will not happen at your bank?
There is no reason to believe that our basic safety and soundness as an institution is in jeopardy. With assets of $189.3 billion and deposits of $102.2 billion, SunTrust is one of the largest and strongest banking companies in the U.S. We have a broad, well-diversified business base, an extensive, growing client base, and we operate in markets with attractive long-term economic prospects.

Will I get more information on what is happening?
Yes. As we continue to work with the FDIC, more details will be provided as they are known.

FDIC Insurance

How do I know my accounts were insured?
A tool is available that allows bank clients the ability to verify whether their account is fully insured or if they need to contact the FDIC. The link to specific contact information is www2.fdic.gov/dip/index.asp . This service will be available for use no later than the first business day after a bank is closed. Once you enter your account number, your insurance status for that account will appear. If there is a hold on your account, it may be due to the need for the additional documentation referenced in question number 1. If there is a hold, you will need to contact the FDIC at 800.830.3256 to schedule an appointment.

Are my accounts passed to SunTrust insured?
SunTrust accounts, including insured non-brokered Omni National Bank accounts passed to SunTrust, are insured by the FDIC as further described below. SunTrust Bank is participating in the FDIC’s Transaction Account Guarantee Program. Under that program, through December 31, 2009, all non interest-bearing transaction accounts are fully guaranteed by the FDIC for the entire amount in the account. Coverage under the Transaction Account Guarantee Program is in addition to, and separate from, the coverage available under the FDIC’s general deposit insurance rules.
