Learn how you’re supported—every step of the way.

We use a multi-layered strategy of technology and dedicated teams to help protect you and your finances from fraud and other security threats.

Some of the technology we use to keep you safe:

  • Data & email encryption – Powerful encryption tools protect your information as it travels between networks.

  • Firewalls and activity logs – Firewalls monitor incoming and outgoing network traffic to identify potential threats.

  • Timeout and lock-out features – A timeout feature automatically ends each user session after a period of inactivity. After three unsuccessful logon attempts, online account access is locked.

  • Private information protocols – We’ll never ask you to email us private information such as your user ID, password, account number, or Social Security number.

What does the financial industry do to protect the security of my card?

In the event of fraud, federal laws and industry practices may limit your losses—depending on the type of card.

Credit cards

Under federal law, your liability for unauthorized use of your credit card is capped at $50. Truist will not hold clients liable for any unauthorized use.

Additionally, credit card losses are typically covered by the card issuer's Zero LiabilityDisclosure 1 policies.

Personal debit cards

You may have no liability for unauthorized debit card purchases, subject to terms and conditions. See the Zero Liability Policy for Consumer Debit Card Purchases for additional detailsDisclosure 2

Business debit cards

If your card is used to make an unauthorized transaction, Truist will not hold clients liable except in certain cases. See Zero Liability for Business Debit Card Purchases for additional details.Disclosure 3

Prepaid cards

Cards that employers use to pay their employees are covered under the same laws governing debit cards.

Reloadable cards aren't protected under federal law but may have similar protections included by the issuer.

Prepaid gift cards are treated like cash and aren't subject to federal liability regulation. If lost or stolen, you might lose the entire value of the card.
