  • Safeguard checks, account statements and ATM, credit and debit cards
  • Report any lost or stolen items immediately 
  • Memorize personal identification numbers (PINs) and avoid writing PINs, Social Security  numbers or credit card account numbers where they can be easily found—including personal  checks 
  • Destroy any pre-approved credit offers that you don’t intend to use
  • Review your credit report regularly to confirm that all information is accurate—view a free copy of your credit report at AnnualCreditReport.com or call 877.322.8228.

Limit paper statements to safeguard your privacy

Eliminate paper with your personal information on it and increase your security by:

  • Reducing the amount of mail you receive that displays personal information.
  • Shredding unnecessary financial documents before throwing them away.
  • Signing up for Online Banking and receiving your statement electronically.
  • Signing up for Direct Deposit to have your funds put directly in your account.

Protect yourself from fraudulent e-mail offers

SunTrust will never send e-mails asking for personal or account information, such as passwords, credit or check card numbers or Social Security numbers. In most instances, we will not send you e-mails unless you have initiated an e-mail dialogue with us or you have previously requested us to communicate with you in this manner.
