How can I get the most from my account?

After the necessary tasks of getting started with your account are complete, it’s up to you to decide how you want your account to work for you.

Use the list below to get your account set up to its fullest potential.

  • Learn easy ways to transfer money

    • For external transfers

      From the Move Money tab in Online Banking, select "External Transfers" to move money between your SunTrust accounts and accounts at other financial institutions. If you haven't already, enter and verify the information for your non-SunTrust accounts. In a few more clicks, your transfer will be all set up without you ever leaving home. Funds are accessible as early as the next day.

      For internal transfers

      From the "Internal Pay & Transfer" screen on the Move Money tab in Online Banking, select "One Time" or "Recurring." Then, choose the SunTrust account you want to transfer money from and to, and enter the dollar amount. You can make payments to your SunTrust credit card or loan this way, too. Select "Pay Advance" when viewing those accounts.

      For Zelle® - pay a person 

      Send money to almost anyone in the U.S. with an email address or U.S. mobile phone number. From the Move Money tab in Online Banking, select "Send money with Zelle®," enter the U.S. mobile number or email and the amount to send. Choose a send date, and the account to send it from. The recipient doesn’t need to have Popmoney or a SunTrust account.

      DISCLAIMERS

      Must have a bank account in the U.S. to use Zelle®. Transactions between enrolled Zelle users typically occur in minutes. If your recipient is not yet enrolled with Zelle, it may take between 1 and 3 business days after they enroll. Transaction limitations apply.

      At this time, SunTrust does not offer the option for clients to receive funds sent from an account with a financial institution that has not partnered with Zelle®.

  • Set up Direct Deposit

    • First-time Direct Deposit users:
      Gather your SunTrust routing and account numbers from a check corresponding to the account where you want items directly deposited.

      Tip: Your 9-digit routing number is the first set of numbers on the bottom of your check. Your account number is the second set of numbers, and may be up to 13 digits long.

      Next, print and complete one of these forms:

      Give the form and a blank check for your corresponding account to the applicable party.

      Direct Deposit users at other banks:
      With our online SwitchAgent® service, transferring existing Direct Deposit and other automatic payments (insurance, mortgage, etc.) to your new SunTrust account is easy.

      To begin, have one of the following handy:

      • Your SunTrust Online Banking ID and password
      • Your SunTrust debit card and PIN number
      • Your account number and Social Security number

      Then, all you need to do is gather any statements or paystubs related to your existing pre-authorized incomes and withdrawals (i.e., insurance, mortgage payments or automatic deposits), and we’ll take care of the rest.

  • Get started with Online Bill Pay

    • To add a bill:

      • Sign on to Online Banking
      • Select "Move Money," then "Pay Bills"
      • Click on "Add a Company or Person"
      • Enter the name of any company or person in the US

      Tip: You can opt in to receive email reminders when new bills arrive and are ready to be paid via Online Bill Pay.

      To make a payment:

      • Sign on to Online Banking
      • Select "Move Money," then "Pay Bills"
      • Select a bill from the Payment Center, enter the amount and date
      • Submit the payment

      Tip: If the bills you’re paying are monthly bills, you can choose a date to set up automatic recurring payments each month.

  • Bank on the go with Mobile Banking

    • Mobile Banking lets you:

      • View your account balances and information
      • Make transfers
      • Pay bills
      • Deposit checks (apps only)
      • Change statement delivery preferences
      • Browse and search transaction history
      • Find an ATM/branch
      • And much more

      Text Banking
      SunTrust also offers Text Banking which uses simple text commands to retrieve balance and transaction information, or to search for a nearby ATM/branch. No apps or smartphone required – only a text-enabled phone.
