Yes, but the limits were raised in 2010 and may be higher than you expect. The maximum loan amount for a 7(a) loan is $5 million. For 504 loans, the maximum loan amount is either $5 million or $5.5 million, depending on the industry and purpose of the loan.

What collateral is required for a SBA loan?

The SBA does not have a specific level of collateral that must be pledged. Required collateral will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

What kind of fees are charged for SBA loans?

The Recovery Act has temporarily waived SBA guarantee fees. There will still be origination fees and closing costs, just as you would have with any loan.

What are the advantages of a SBA loan?

You may find it easier to qualify for a loan backed by the SBA because the bank receives a federal guarantee for a large portion of the loan.

Can I apply for a SBA loan through SunTrust?

Yes. SunTrust is active in making SBA loans. To get started, please contact the SunTrust Business Banking Client Care Center Mon – Fri from 8:00am to 8:00pm at 877.370.5108.

Is SunTrust a SBA Preferred Lender?

Yes, SunTrust is an SBA Preferred Lender. This means we are authorized by the SBA to grant loan approvals, thereby speeding up the time to grant and approve SBA loans.

What are the advantages of applying for a SBA loan through SunTrust?

SunTrust has trained SBA loan specialists who can guide you through the process and advise you on the loan programs. Most important, our specialists can tell you up-front what documentation will be required and evaluate your specific situation in order to tell you your likelihood of receiving the loan.

      What is a SBA Champion?

SunTrust SBA Champions are our SBA loan specialists. They can help gather all of the information you will need and quickly usher you through the process.

How can I apply for a SBA-backed loan at SunTrust?

The best way is to call 800.752.2515 to speak with a SunTrust business banking representative seven days a week. The representative can help you open an account, apply for a loan, apply for a business credit card or get more information on any of our products and services.

Does SunTrust offer business loans other than those backed by the SBA?

Yes. SunTrust also offers business term loans and commercial mortgages. Business term loans will help fund your business projects and offer flexible payment options while our commercial mortgages provide competitive rates for buying or building facilities for your business.

      What are SBA loans?

Small Business Administration loans (SBA loans) are U.S. government guaranteed loans for business owners.

Does the U.S. government make SBA loans?

No. The U.S. government only guarantees, or "backs," a percentage of the loan. The bank providing the loan is the actual lender. The government guarantee reduces the risk of losses for the bank and, therefore, allows banks to make more loans than they would be willing to make without a guarantee.

What kinds of businesses qualify for SBA loans?

Businesses from all types of industries are eligible for SBA loans. The business can be a small start-up or have more than a thousand employees with revenues in the millions of dollars. The most common borrowers are entrepreneurs looking to start, expand or acquire a business.
